My Home Site is Live
After years of building software for others, I've finally carved out a space of my own on the web. This site is where I'll be documenting the projects I've worked on over the past four decades and sharing some honest thoughts about what I've learned along the way.
Why Now?
Born in Manchester in 1967, I've been writing code since I was a teenager. Over 40 years, I've built games, web applications, and mobile apps - sometimes successfully, sometimes not. But like most developers, I've never been brilliant at keeping track of it all or sharing the lessons learned. This site is my attempt to fix that.
What You'll Find Here
This isn't going to be a polished portfolio site with carefully curated highlights. It's more of a working record - the good, the challenging, and everything in between. I'll be sharing:
- Projects: Things I've built over the years, from early game development to modern web applications
- Technical Writing: Practical insights from decades of solving problems and learning new technologies
- Honest Reflections: What worked, what didn't, and why - without the corporate spin
The Approach
I'm a straight-talking northerner, so expect clear, no-nonsense writing. I'll break down complex topics without being condescending, and I won't dress up failures as "learning opportunities" (though that's what they were). If I don't know something, I'll say so.
Looking Forward
This site will grow over time as I document past projects and share new thoughts. It's built with Next.js 15 and has a retro magazine feel that suits my sensibilities - functional, a bit nostalgic, and straightforward.
Thanks for stopping by. Feel free to explore, and if something resonates with you, I'd be happy to hear about it.
